Everybody has a different reasons for getting up on the floor and doing the popular dance of the day.  The activity of dancing goes back thousands of years.  Dance originally had sacred meditative, and symbolic meaning.  Today, dance has taken on many forms and one myriad form is Chicago Stepping.  It is not the drilled precision Stepping that one may be most familiar but, instead a graceful two or more person's dance with roots in Africa.

At first glance you may think it is for young people, but on closer inspection you will find that many of its adherents and staunch supporters are let's say, seasoned.   Travel is a part of the appeal of this dance.  Those that are captivated by the dance, travel all over the United States to participate in its lively and sometimes competitive events.

Ann Groggrins-Hunter is one of the young dancers of the Chicago Stepp discipline.  Her moves will have you watching mesmerized and wishing you could move as she does.  Ann's moves are graceful, fluid, and seemingly effortless.  Yet, Ann is quick to let you know, that even you can Chicago Stepp!

Ann started dancing in 2001 and states that her repertoire includes the Ballroom, Bop, Latin Hustle, Graystone, Salsa and the Chicago Stepp.  She currently teaches the Chicago Stepp only and has been teaching since 2003.

Ann says "I like to bring light to all dances but my love is Steppin (as it is known in the Chicago Stepping community).  Ann further states, "I have  entered contest and won some.  I have been in two plays and a number of performance showcases.  I travel doing workshops and private sessions and different events.  That is so much fun and all of the various hosts are wonderful!"

If you are interested in contacting Ann for lessons, she can be reached through her website Effortless Elegance, www.efforlesselegance.net by email: effortlesselegance@yahoo.com.  Ann can also be reached by telephone at 313.444.8291, fax: 313.651.9526 and through Facebook at Effortless Elegance EE,LLC.
